An Ordinary of Siebmacher's Wappenbuch

This is an ongoing project to create an exhaustive ordinary of Johann Siebmacher's Wappenbuch from 1605. I am working from the digitization of it available here. If you find any error, please let me know. As a work in progress, it will be updated as I have time.

All blazons are my own. Note that in some cases, shields with a helmet facing sinister have had their arms reversed as well (e.g., a bend is displayed as a bend sinister, the tinctures of the field reversed, etc. So if you think you've found an error, double check the helm on top!) Each blazon is identified with the name of the owner as it appears in Siebmacher, with these conventions: I have transcribed vocalic v as u, and expanded , Gē:, and to en, genannt, and Von, respectively. The number in parentheses is the plate number on which the arms occur.


ESCUTCHEON - 1 - Gules

Argent, an eagle, head to sinister, sable, surmounted by an escutcheon gules charged with a capital W argent, Wangen (219).

Argent, an escutcheon gules and a label couped azure, die Bredter von Hohenstein (130).

Argent, an escutcheon gules and in sinister canton an annulet sable, die Knöbel (124).

Gules, a cross argent, overall an escutcheon gules charged with a fess argent, Wien (11).

Or, an eagle sable, surmounted by an escutcheon gules charged with a castle argent, Fridtberg in der Weterau (219).

Or, issuant from an escutcheon linden leaves slipped gules, von Kniestedt (170).

Or, on an eagle sable an escutcheon gules charged with a capital T argent, Tull (220).

Quarterly 1st and 4th argent, a door sable pierced square gules, 2nd and 3rd argent, three linden leaves conjoined in pall inverted vert, overall on an escutcheon gules, two rakes in saltire Or, Neuhaus (34).

Quarterly 1st and 4th argent, three roses gules seeded Or, 2nd and 3rd Or, three fusils throughout conjoined in bend, overall on an escutcheon gules, a pair of pliers bendwise argent, von Törring (25).

Quarterly 1st and 4th azure, a crampon argent, 2nd and 34d, per fess argent and gules, a mullet of six points counterchanged, overall an escutcheon gules charged with two elephant's trunks argent issuant from a mount vert, die Bayrn von Caldif (44).

Quarterly 1st and 4th gules, a chevron inverted throughout argent, 2nd and 3rd azure, a bend sinister argent between a mullet of six points Or and a crescent argent, overall an escutcheon gules charged with a rose Or, von Chontzin (38).

Quarterly 1st and 4th sable, three garbs Or, 2nd and 3rd argent, a fess gules, overall an escutcheon gules charged with a lion argent collared and chained Or, Buecheim (33).
