An Ordinary of Siebmacher's Wappenbuch

This is an ongoing project to create an exhaustive ordinary of Johann Siebmacher's Wappenbuch from 1605. I am working from the digitization of it available here. If you find any error, please let me know. As a work in progress, it will be updated as I have time.

All blazons are my own. Note that in some cases, shields with a helmet facing sinister have had their arms reversed as well (e.g., a bend is displayed as a bend sinister, the tinctures of the field reversed, etc. So if you think you've found an error, double check the helm on top!) Each blazon is identified with the name of the owner as it appears in Siebmacher, with these conventions: I have transcribed vocalic v as u, and expanded , Gē:, and to en, genannt, and Von, respectively. The number in parentheses is the plate number on which the arms occur.


ESCUTCHEON - 1 - Argent

Argent, an eagle sable, surmounted by an escutcheon argent charged with a castle gules, Rotenburg (219).

Azure, an escutcheon argent within a bordure nebuly Or, overall a saltire gules, von Schawenburg (195).

Gules, an escutcheon argent, die Drosten (190).

Gules, on an escutcheon argent, in pale three stag's attires fesswise sable, Minsingen (226).

Gyronny of sixteen Or and sable, an escutcheon argent, Reveln (12).

Quarterly 1st and 4th azure, a demi-swan rousant argent, 2nd and 3rd quarterly gules and checky argent and azure, overall an escutcheon argent charged with an ox rampant sable, von Baymundt (99).

Quarterly 1st and 4th azure, on a fess Or a rose gules, 2nd and 3rd bendy gules and argent, overall an escutcheon argent charged with three jambes bendwise in bend sinister sable, von Egk (81).

Quarterly 1st and 4th gules, a mullet Or, 2nd and 3rd per bend Or and sable issuant from the line of division a trefoil bendwise sinister and another inverted counterchanged, overall on an escutcheon argent a bull rampant sable, Rumpff (24).

Quarterly 1st and 4th Or, an eagle argent, 2nd and 3rd argent, a dance gules, overall an escutcheon argent charged with three crescents azure, die Trapen zu Bissein (44).

Quarterly 1st and 4th per pale argent and gules, 2nd and 3rd gules, a demi-rabbit issuant from base argent, overall on an escutcheon argent, a griffin sable, H. von Öth (34).
