Over the years, the College of Arms has received submissions of many various given names which were either ruled unregisterable due to lack of evidence for their use by real people in our period or were ruled SCA-compatible (i.e., "we can't find any evidence for their use by real people in our period, but they're so popular, we can't in good conscience stop registering them"). SCA-compatability was done away with on the May 2009 Cover Letter; a discussion for the reasoning behind the decision can be found on the May 2008 Cover Letter.

However, precedents along the lines of "we declare Name unregisterable due to lack of evidence for its usage in period" can almost always be overturned by presenting such evidence. In recent years, we've found evidence for many names previously thought to be modern coinages. In this article, I'm collecting this evidence into one place.

I'm creating this list on the basis of the list of names under the heading "Compatible" in the compiled precedents done by Mari ingen Briain meic Donnchada, available here, though I have added some names that are not listed here.
