The following names of roughly 350 men are taken customs records from Genoa in 1376. Italy during this time period did not speak a unified language, but rather various dialects were spoken in different parts of the country. Genoa lies between the Ligure and the Emiliano-Romagnolo dialect regions. However, the records from which these names were taken were written in Latin, and so these spellings do not necessarily represent the spoken form used in Genoa at this time. Furthermore, because of the way the records were taken, all of the names were listed in the ablative case (following de 'of'), as can be recognized by the presense of the terminal <-o> and <-e>. I have tried, where possible, to give the standard nominative Latin forms of the given names. There will eventually be three lists: Given names, by frequency; given names, alphabetically; and surnames, alphabetically.
