Introduction

The following names of around 200 men and 1 woman are taken from the Vestmeestersrekening 1464 [SA I, inv.nr. 530], transcribed by Jan Dröge.

The men listed here are primarily skilled workers. The vast majority of their bynames are either patronymics or occupational; there are very few locatives, and this is perhaps a reflection of the class status of the men.

Many of the men were mentioned more than once, and the fluidity of their names in some cases is very great. For example, a man named <Allairt> who was the son of a man named <Jan> was recorded in the following ways:

The forms ending <-ge> or <-gen> are pet forms.

Women's Names

One woman was mentioned in the document, Alijt Harsten.

Men's Given Names

Because people were sometimes recorded more than once with variant forms of the names, I have counted the names as they refer to distinct people, and I have made no attempt to determine how often each variant spelling occurred, with the exception that I use the most common spelling as the header. Variant spellings have been grouped together.
