Some Pre-Conquest English Masculine Names

The following names have been extracted from the chapter "Christian Names Used as Bynames" in Gösta Tengvik's Old English Bynames. I have only taken names dated from before 1066 in Tengvik's chapter.

As is indicated by the title of the chapter from which these names are taken, half the names listed below were taken from patronymic bynames in the form name in genitive case + sunu/suna/sune 'son.' Tengvik gives, at the end of the discussion of these bynames, the standard scholarly forms of these names, as well as their language of origin. Thus, the names listed below are either listed in the form recorded in the book, or changed from the genitive case and listed in the standard nominative form. Some of the names as a whole were recorded in the genitive or dative cases. These names are followed by a *, (g), or (d), to note that this is not how they were found in the original sources that Tengvik used. Currently, names from non-nominative forms that do not have a nominative form listed yet are followed by **.
